Make sure your fi-domain name is lawful

Domain name holders are responsible for making sure that the domain name they have registered is lawful. The domain name must not infringe a protected name or trademark owned by another party. You can lose the domain name you have registered if requested by the owner of the infringed name or trademark.

Each domain name is unique. In principle, you can choose your domain name freely and domain names are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. However, you are responsible for making sure that your domain name is lawful. If you register a domain name that infringes someone else's name or trademark, you can lose your domain name.

Before registering a domain name, consult the public registers to make sure that the domain name does not infringe someone else’s name or trademark protected in Finland or within the EU.

The objective of the Act is to foster the supply and use of electronic communications services and to ensure that everyone across Finland has access to communications networks and services at reasonable conditions. A further objective of the Act is to secure the efficient and interference-free use of radio frequencies, to foster competition, and to ensure that communications networks and services are technologically advanced, of high quality, reliable, safe, and inexpensive. This Act also aims to ensure the confidentiality of electronic communication and the protection of privacy.
